History and Geography

History: At Blenheim, we aim for the children to have a good chronological understanding of world events. This will not only give them a good understanding of the past but will also give them the opportunity to use a range of sources to find information. They will also be able to evaluate the give them the necessary skills to make links to current events. They will look at topics such as holidays in the past and kings and queens of England. They will study the history of ancient civilisations, making links between these, learning how civilisations were able to grow and how they came to an end. They will also look at more recent topics such as the Tudors and the impacts of World Wars.

Geography: At Blenheim, we give children the opportunity to confidently explore the world around them. Our aim is to help our children make sense of the geographical world and to excite them with the idea of learning about people and places. We want to help children understand how the human and physical features of a place can change over time and teach children to collect and analyse evidence and draw conclusions. The children will also study local geography, recognising the key parts of Orpington. They will also look at weather and climate both locally and around the world. They will also study settlements around the world, with a focus on more extreme areas such as mountains and deserts.
